László Szabó Sóki : Hungarian Instructional Films: From the Beginnings to 1931

The film was born in the last decade of the 18th century and got popularity soon, not only as an entertaining instrument, but also as an educational possibility. It reached to the schools in the first decade of the 19th century together with picture illustration. Hungary was the first country in the world, where established a firm shooting educational films, took place in 1913, named Pedagógiai Filmgyár. Recognizing the significance of the film happened due to the teachers as well as the cultural politics, pedagogical experts, and scientists. After the waryears period, under the circumstances of that time, the most possible solutions emerged, going to the cinema at schooltime, or projecting in the gymnasium, for all pupils. As a consequence of the economic interests of different circles, two separate firms supplied the schools with film, the above mentioned Pedagógiai Filmgyár in Budapest, and MHKRT the countryside. In the end, in 1930–31 with the elimination of both market factors and with considering the pedagogical aspects, the production and supply of Hungarian educational films was based upon new grounds in the next years.
