The Institute of Education at the University of Szeged will be represented in the international scientific programme connected to the 37th Annual Conference of Academia Europaea. Held in Budapest from 12 to 16 October 2026, Building Bridges 2026 will bring together members of Academia Europaea and the Young Academy of Europe, as well as representatives of diverse fields of research.

On 12 October, the opening day of the conference, the Academia Europaea Budapest Knowledge Hub will host three satellite events at the headquarters of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. One of these will be the symposium entitled Science-Driven Transformation of Educational Quality: From Systemic Inequality to Evidence-Based Practice, focusing on the evidence-based improvement of educational quality.

The symposium will examine educational effectiveness and equity from two complementary perspectives. The macro-level perspective will be presented by Professor Mari-Pauliina Vainikainen of Tampere University, leader of the MapIE project. Drawing on the project’s international comparative research, her presentation will explore how structural, institutional and societal factors contribute to the emergence and persistence of educational inequalities. The MapIE project brings together partners from Finland, Sweden, Norway, Germany and Hungary, with the MTA–SZTE Digital Learning Technologies Research Group participating in its work.

The professional collaboration between Tampere University and the Institute of Education at the University of Szeged also extends to doctoral education: during the autumn semester of the 2026/2027 academic year, Mari-Pauliina Vainikainen will teach a course for students of the Doctoral School of Education at the University of Szeged.

The micro-level perspective, focusing on student- and classroom-level processes, will be presented by Professor Gyöngyvér Molnár of the Institute of Education at the University of Szeged, head of the MTA–SZTE Digital Learning Technologies Research Group. In her presentation, entitled Turning Educational Evidence into Action: Digital Tools for Adaptive and Personalized Learning, she will demonstrate how findings from educational research can be translated into digital tools for classroom practice and how these tools can support adaptive, personalized learning and targeted assistance for students.

The symposium will take place from 15:00 to 17:00 on 12 October 2026 at the headquarters of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in Budapest.
