The Center for Research on Learning and Instruction was established in 2003 on the initiative of Benő Csapó. The research group operates alongside the Institute of Education at the University of Szeged (SZTE), building on its decades-long research and training tradition. Between 2001 and 2022, its work was closely linked to the work of the MTA-SZTE Research Group on the Development of Cognitive Competencies, led by Benő Csapó. Since 2021, the work of the Educational Theory Research Group has been carried out in close collaboration with the MTA-SZTE Research Group on Digital Learning Technologies. The research group considers it especially important to study mathematical and scientific literacy, reading comprehension, as well as the cognitive and affective skills that influence knowledge acquisition. Its goal is to establish and maintain a lasting partnership between the researchers and the schools involved in applying the results, to engage practical professionals in the research work, to support the widespread dissemination of the findings, and to create an integrated approach to research, development, and training.
