Elizabeth A. Bruch: Multicultural Education – A Response

In this article, the author provides an overview on multicultural education in the United States from its early history to its current application and implementation in today's schools, The authors' perspectives include the following: 1) describing the three major approaches, historically, that have existed in understanding intergroup relations in the United States: assimilation, melting pot, and cultural pluralism; 2) describing the current problem; 3) looking at the issue of whether or not multiculturalism is the school's responsibility, and 4) reviewing the current approaches to providing multicultural education in schools in the United States
