Klaus-Peter Horn: The reception of hungarian pedagogy in Germany in the first half of the 20th century

The present discussion on intellectual history investigates the conditions for the reception of ideas through the example of the presence and status of Hungarian pedagogical thinking in Germany in the first half of the 20th century. German thinking had a strong and acknowledged influence on Hungarian educators, which partly explains why their ideas and writings, though published in Germany, seem to have remained unnoticed. The only author whose work won interest in the period examined was Gusztáv Bárczi. His theory and methods for treating disabled children created eager and positive responses at first, but the debate on the effectiveness of his insights and ideas concluded with their rejection. The author highlights the importance of the perception of uniqueness in the process of becoming open to consider new ideas from outside.
