László Tóth and Zoltán Király: A new method for creativity assessment the Toth creativity assessment scale

The Toth Creativity Assessment Scale (TCAS) is a new instrument to assess creative personality traits. It is developed primarily for use with higher secondary students, but it is also appropriate for younger and older age groups. The TCAS is a self-description inventory that involves twelve dimensions, namely, nonconformity, complexity preference, risk taking, independent thinking, impatience, assertiveness, dominance, curiosity, activity, originality, persistence and playfulness. This article reports the development of the TCAS standards, based on the results obtained from a representative sample (N=1732). The mathematical and statistical analyses show that the dimensions form independent factors and both the validity and the reliability of the TCAS meet the requirements. In comparison with the Torrance TCT test battery, the TCAS seems to provide a more complex and useful instrument which can handle the distinctive aspects of the creative problem solving process. The authors believe that this method can help teachers to identify and develop gifted students.
